Processing used materials and creating new products from them saves energy and protects the environment.

POLLUTION

The majority of Americans send used materials to landfills, where it can take hundreds of years to decompose, if ever. While landfills are regulated, chemicals can leach out and contaminate water sources. Instead, avoid putting reusable materials in the trash!  In order to make room for new waste, incinerators are used to burn waste to make create energy. However, this only releases harmful greenhouse gases into the air. Also, it is extremely costly to maintain compared to renewable energy production methods

RAW MATERIALS

If used materials are thrown away, new material has to be sourced in order to produce more clothing. Not only do recycled materials reduce the overall demand for raw materials, they minimize energy usage and reduces production costs. Aluminum can be recycled infinitely while sourcing new aluminum creates approximately five tons of toxic mud.
